Govt companies head resigns, first in Duterte cabinet
MANILA - The chairman of the agency tasked to coordinate policies among government corporations has quit, in the first resignation to hit President Rodrigo Duterte's cabinet, his colleague confirmed on Friday.
Jaime Ma. Flores resigned as chairman of the Governance Commission for Government Owned or Controlled Corporations (GCG) effective Oct. 24, GCG corporate governance office director Gene Carl Tupas told ABS-CBN News.
"The GCG is currently waiting for the official acceptance of the chairman's resignation from the Office of the President," Tupas said.
Despite Flores' resignation, the GCG will "continue to function and perform its legal mandate as a collegial body," Tupas said.
"We assure the transacting public that our services will not be hampered and we will continue to serve the Filipino People as always," he said.
The GCG, which was created under the GOCC Governance Act of 2011, screens appointees to GOCCs. It can also recommend the suspension of any member of a GOCC's board.
Under the GOCC Governance Act, the GCG Chair is a cabinet level official and his office is attached to the Office of the President.
