In Toronto, best friends Jennifer Jen Wu and Jennifer "Mo" Monteloyola decide to become roommates when Mos parents move back to the Philippines and Jen takes the opportunity to live independent from her Chinese immigrant parents. They move into a rooming house apartment where they meet housemates eager Lewis and mellow Nate whose new friendship encourages the girls to not give up on the challenges of their newly independent lives. Mainstream culture is all about go out there, have fun safe sex, and in Asian culture you just never talk about it at all, says Joy.
The title of the show also refers to the second generation, and the cultural and technological divide between millennials and their parents.
This isnt a show just about being Asian, its about the generational shift thats happening out there, Wan says.
Joy says the experience is universal: It can be someone coming from small town Ontario and being used to a different way of life.
