cool way to say hi after more than 10 years

Here's the story, there's someone I have not yet talked to or seen for more than 10 years and then sometime last year I bumped into him, we didn't say hi or acknowledge each others presence but I recognized him. I was able to get his landline thru social media. Now,I am thinking of calling him and asking how he is.

Would it be a good idea to call him and ask him how he is?

What would be a nice reason to call him other than wanting to talk to him, after all he might be married na pala.
