I think I brought this topic up before in replying to other threads but I want to create a thread of its own in hopes to bring it up for discussion.
I recently visited London for Vacation and one of my tour guides mentioned Winston Churchill and he mentioned Churchill was a great leader but because of his hardliner, brash, rude, and misogynistic attitude he probably wouldn't be prime minister today and would be reduced to, at most, a political caricature.
This got me thinking to a point I made before.
I do acknowledge that Duterte has leadership qualities but I feel like his style seems more fitting a different era or generation. It's easy to compare him to the likes of Lee Kwan Yew, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Richard Nixon and the likes but the difference is that these leaders were from a different era.
The WWII/post WWII/cold war era when the world and countries were at the brink of destruction where countries were at the brink of being a failed state. That was then this is now.
Now South East Asia has stabilized as a region and most countries have survived the Cold War era where the Soviets and Americans used for their proxy wars and ideologies.
Sure you still get leaders like this today, Trump and Hilary are at a dead heat in the polls and the prime minister of Israel. Though, unlike Trump supporters who are either old white men or uneducated, Duterte's supporters are the young and educated. And Israel has enemies that wand to destroy them surrounding the country.
My question is though did we elect the right president for today's social and political landscape or did we elect someone to be president from the wrong time and different era?
